Festival of Wine too good to be a one off?

6 Jun 2014 by Tara Stagman

Local wine merchants joined in with the Tour de France celebrations here in Yorkshire last weekend. With thousands visiting Harrogate, Ake and Humphris put on a Festival of Wine at their store on Leeds Road, opening their doors and setting out chairs and tables for an event where customers could try wines by the glass from around the world.

The glorious sunshine helped to amplify the general atmosphere of excitement and anticipation in the town and the tables filled up with locals and visitors all enjoying some of the shop’s best selling wines as well as some more unusual choices, including a very tasty, limited quantity, sparkling wine from Tasmania “Devil’s Corner”. Des Tinline, wine advisor at A&H since it opened in 2010 describes this as “a fruity,
mellow and refined sparkler with exceptionally fine, gentle fizz. Deliciously easy drinking and a great accompaniment for light summer meals.”

One local couple asked the question, “Why don’t they do this all the time?”. Manager, Paul Auty, has promised to look into this possibility once he has recovered from all the excitement.
