Anita Bowerman is a local artist who likes to get involved with things, such as designing the grand depart Yorkshire 2014 wheel with cyclists papercut motif in 2014 for the Tour de France, and producing gift cards for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, with her latest series featuring Amanda Owen, the Yorkshire Sheperdess. Anita is also this year's artist in residence at RHS Harlow Carr Gardens, painting a scene from the gardens each month.
In Group members were treated to a tour of Anita's art at her delightful Dove Tree Art Gallery followed by a demo. "Salt or gouache and moss?" she asked us, and we opted for a bit of gouache and moss...
Anita demonstrated her techniques used when painting natural landscapes using gouache (sourced from the South of France) and natural materials, by which I mean stuff she picked up last time she was outside on the Stray, like twigs and moss!
We watched as she created a beautiful water and gouache painting with natural materials including twigs, moss, leaves and grass.
When asked about her choice of colour palette, Anita explained that she works with the colours she loves and her desires in this regard have been confirmed when she had her colours read - spring and summer, but no red!
As a local networking group, our members have seen first hand why Anita is successful with her art and her fundraising for Yorkshire Air Ambulance. We're delighted that Anita has offered to raffle her painting to the group with funds raised going to Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
